ACO wins drainage order for new stadium
ACO Building Drainage has won the order to supply the external drainage system
that will serve the pedestrian walkways and turnstile entrances at Arsenal's
new Emirates Stadium in north London. The channel system will run around
the circumference of the entire structure - a total distance of over 1800 metres - and
be installed to perfectly match the oval curve of the finished building.
To be manufactured in stainless steel, the uniform depth system will be fitted
with a perforated, stainless steel grating that is equipped with ACO's Quicklock
system which prevents accidental removal and vandalism. Specified by HOK
architects and supplied to site in modular, two and three metre long sections,
the installation will be completed by main contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine, and
specialist sub-contractor, Rock Ashphalte.
"Achieving a finish that runs exactly parallel to the external curve of the stadium
was a significant design challenge," says Martin Fairley, Division Director at
ACO Building Drainage. "By accurately manufacturing different lengths
of flange-coupled channel, we were able to install a test site that gave the
appearance of a perfect curve. This approach saves considerable time and
cost during manufacture and will help to greatly simplify installation on site. |
